Jackson Ramon brings his bold, hand-drawn style to this year’s 2025 design.
Jackson is a songwriter, illustrator, and all-around creative force who got into graphic design through music using it as a tool to keep everything in-house. A longtime illustrator, he’s been drawing since childhood, and his work spans from show posters to album art, always aiming to make graphics feel fun rather than clinical.
Originally from Bakersfield, Jackson values authenticity and tangible interactions, believing that a strong sense of community is key to success. He’s been a fixture at venues like @mississippistudios and @rontoms_pdx , and recently at @turnturnturnpdx where he takes pride in seeing people dance.
Musically, Jackson’s journey has evolved from rock to country, drawn to storytelling legends like Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, and Willie Nelson. His deep, rich voice and love for storytelling shine through in his music, influenced by both classic country and the rock legends he once aspired to be.
And then, there are the dinosaurs. “I always draw dinosaurs,” he says. From setlist scribbles to album art, they’ve been a constant in his work—now taking center stage in this year’s PDX Pop Now! visuals.

Named after the river where countless summer nights were spent skateboarding, learning guitar and jamming with childhood bands, San Gabriel emerged. It began as a side project behind the counter of an east Austin liquor store.
Today, San Gabriel has settled down in Portland and splits his duties as a writer, singer, producer and multi-instrumentalist.

Born from the My Voice Music AMPLIFY: High School Program, FRENZI’s sound is a nostalgic yet innovative blend inspired by 90s grunge and industrial legends like Filter, Nirvana, and modern alt rockers Wednesday. With an energy that fuses punk’s raw edge and melodic sensibility, FRENZI brings a unique flavor to the stage, adding hints of new metal and the catchy, alternative, and sometimes goofy vibe of Weezer. They are currently recording their debut album at My Voice Music.

Mr. Boy is a three-piece silly rock band hailing from Portland, Oregon. Our endlessly talented lead guitarist and vocalist is Aaron Clark, the genius behind Mr. Boy. But he couldn’t do it without our beautiful and talented back-up vocalist and bassist, Chloe Roberts, and our drummer, Bri Swilling, who plays hard and loves to find the “pocket.”
Our music ranges from grunge to math-rock, with some surfy and psychedelic undertones. BUT we are most known for having lyrics that’ll make you wonder “are they really talking about Amazon orders?” , time signatures that will make you say “Am I nodding my head right?”, and melodies that make you think “what is happening right now?” The answers to those questions are “yes”, “yes”, and “we don’t know either, but YOU don’t know that.”

Since 2018, Growing Pains have been writing and performing blue-tinted indie rock, spritzed with emo, power pop, and shoegaze influences. Formed at an after-school music program, the members of Growing Pains communed over a shared love for Joyce Manor and Blink-182. They soon made the rounds through the Portland DIY circuit, playing scene staples such as Blackwater and Fail House.
After releasing their debut album Heaven Spots, the band temporarily relocated to Eugene, where they wrote their next project. Leaving their pop-punk influences at home, the group took influence from the frenzied side of indie rock, choosing to channel the phantasmic soundscapes of My Bloody Valentine and disarranged stimulantics of Broken Social Scene.
This came to fruition in the 2023 EP Thought I Heard Your Car, a 5 song meditation on nostalgia; l’esprit d’escalier in song form. Playwright Antonin Artaud wrote: “I abandon myself to the fever of dreams, in search for new laws.” For Portland-based indie quartet Growing Pains, the dream world is where apathy ends, and euphoria begins.

Public Pleasure weaves shrieking feedback, distorted drones, and buzzsaw guitar hooks into discordant yet approachable pop songs. Provocative vocals float atop the maelstrom, riffing off of pop culture reference points while contemplating queerness and disenchantment at the end of the world.

A fiery mess of sultry post-punk grooves out of Portland, Oregon, TV Viking’s self-proclaimed “stoner disco” combines the soulful swagger of Roxy Music with driving riffage à la Queens of the Stone Age. The band recently wrapped recording on their as-yet-untitled debut album, slated for early 2025 release.

‘Palmas Del Sol’ is a band consisting of members Tony Ramirez (Orquestra Pacífico Tropical, Eagle Sun King), Ana Belén (Sandy Pylos, EEEKS), Papi Fimbres (Sávila, Dreckig), Ana Rodriguez (Orquestra Pacífico Tropical, Letras) & Vicco Gonzalez (Caicedo).
Together these five Brown homies are concocting a brand new sound from the diaspora of their homelands, respectfully. Intertwining Cumbia, Salsa, Tropical & Latin Pop, Palmas Del Sol have birthed a sound that is not quite easy to pinpoint, but is familiar in a distant way, like a song that you loved as a child but can only hear in your dreams.
This quintet culls from the depths of their native tierra to add a unique perspective onto these genres that they have all grown up on to bring a brand new interpretation to their music & what that means to them.

Fans of Jamaican music won’t want to miss The Bandulus’ fusion of ska, reggae, and soul with a touch of rocksteady and R&B influences. Their unique sound is rooted in the classic Jamaican sounds of the 1960’s and 1970’s while infusing it with their own modern twist.
The Bandulus live performances will take you on a sonic journey from Memphis, TN to Kingston, Jamaica. In March of 2024, The Bandulus released their 4th studio album ‘TELL IT LIKE IT IS’ on Badasonic Records and promoted the album by touring across 6 countries, playing 23 shows in 23 days in Europe.
They were a main feature at the 2024 Freedom Sounds Ska festival in Cologne, Germany, the 2024 Rude Cat Festival in Barcelona, Spain and the Rude Mad Festival in Madrid, Spain. Patois for bandit, thief, or scammer, The Bandulus will steal your heart and always keep you smiling.

Inspired by sci-fi art, cult mentality and deep connections, creating low fidelity chameleon dreamscapes somewhere between abstract expressionism and surrealism both sonically and visually. Reptaliens is a project of exploration in pop culture.

The last two years have been particularly difficult for venues, musicians, and the music industry as a whole. As a response, we decided to make some big changes to our festival this year, including initiating our longtime goal of paying participating artists (the festival has long been a 100% volunteer event), and collaborating more closely with music venues in our community.
What will this look like? In addition to two outdoor, all ages, and free daylong events on August 27 and 28 at Honey Latte and the Kenton Club, the festival will expand to feature multiple daily events throughout the week. We will be offering accessible ticketed events, daily free events, and a select number of after hours 21+ events which will serve as fundraisers to support PDX Pop Now’s ongoing programming. Our aim is to create an opportunity for every band who plays a 21+ show to play a second show for an all ages audience, and from the response we’ve received, Portland musicians are eager to do so.
The most important component to us is to continue to support Portland music and the expansion of all ages music through our annual festival and compilation. Many of the participating venues are opening their doors early and hosting all ages shows for the very first time. For us, it’s an opportunity to bring some of the best Portland music to a wider audience, and collaborate with the venues that have been integral to supporting Portland music year-round.
Participating venues include: Honey Latte, Kenton Club, The Fixin’ To, Blackwater, Turn Turn Turn, Zero Wave, Mothership Music, Speck’s Music, and fundraising events at The Firkin, Kelly’s Olympian, and The Jack London Review.
The complete schedule and lineup will be announced in the upcoming weeks, so in the meantime, clear your schedules for August 22-28 and join us for a weeklong celebration of our Portland music community.
